HUNTINGTON, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team faced a pair of tough challenges on Saturday during the final day of the Asics Tournament as they squared off with Randolph-Macon and No. 14 Juniata. Both of those opponents were qualifiers to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. F&M fell by 3-0 scores during both contests. Following the conclusion of the tournament, Carly Bozzo was named to the All-Tournament Team for her play throughout the weekend.
Starting off the day with Randolph-Macon, the Diplomats faced an instant challenge as the Yellow Jackets posted 29 kills and 12 service aces during their victory. Sydney Levins led the Diplomats' hitters with eight kills during the afternoon match. Annmarie Earley dished out eight of the team's 15 assists. Three players, Meredith Mangum, Carly Bozzo, and Earley led the Diplomats with eight digs. Jada West was once again a strong presence at the net, highlighted by her two blocks.
Allison Franke was the F&M leader with nine kills against the nationally-ranked Eagles. Gianna Mangiamele added five kills to the team's efforts. Earley led the team in assists once again with 13 helpers. Carly Bozzo was a strong defensive presence with 32 digs while teammate Mikayla Smith also reached double figures with 10 digs during the match.
Coming off of a very challenging weekend of competition, the Diplomats are currently sitting at 4-3 on the young season. They will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Eastern next Friday at 7 p.m. The Diplomats will also take part in a tri-match with at Lancaster Bible just one day later. Elizabethtown will also take part in that weekend tri-meet.
