COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (1-4, 0-2 CC) lost its Centennial Conference game to Ursinus (3-2, 1-1 CC), 62-51, Tuesday evening.
The Diplomats opening basket by Jaclyn Feit would be the only lead that F&M held all game, as Ursinus followed by putting up 13 unanswered points and controlling the lead for the rest of the contest.
Down 23-10 in the second quarter, F&M cut the deficit to single digits with a basket from Natalie Kolb to make the score 25-16. Kennedy Wilburn and Feit chipped in four more points to keep Ursinus within reach. Kolb's layup with 17 seconds left cut the Bears' lead to 31-22 going into the halftime break.
UC extended its lead throughout the third quarter as it outscored F&M 16-9 in the frame.
Trailing 58-45 with 3:04 left in regulation, Feit converted a three-point play after she was fouled on a layup to make it a 10-point deficit. F&M earned its next three points at the charity stripe as Meg Navarro made one, followed by Lizzie Neville making both of her free throws to get the Diplomats within nine. F&M outscored Ursinus 20-15 in the quarter, but the deficit was too great to overcome.
Wilburn led the Diplomats in points with 13, while also tallying eight rebounds and three steals. Neville racked up 12 points and two steals in the game. Feit finished with eight points, five rebounds, and five blocks in the contest.
Franklin & Marshall returns to Mayser Center to host Dickinson on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
