BALTIMORE, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team defeated McDaniel in the Centennial Conference (CC) Semifinals, 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23), on Saturday.
The Diplomats improved to 20-5 while the Green Terror fell to 14-12.
In the other CC Semifinal match, Johns Hopkins swept Swarthmore, 3-0. F&M faces the Blue Jays in the CC Championship Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
In the opening set, F&M and McDaniel traded short runs until the Diplomats were down 13-10. From there, F&M finished the set on a 15-9 run to take a 25-21 set victory.
The Diplomats owned a 17-14 lead in the second set before the Green Terror took four of the next five points to claim a 19-18 lead. F&M later tied the score 21-21, but McDaniel took the next three points to lead 24-21. The Diplomats nearly forced extra points before McDaniel won the set 25-23.
Set three saw eight different ties between F&M and the Green Terror that led to a 19-19 split of the set's first 38 points. The Diplomats took six of the final nine to edge McDaniel, 25-22.
The Diplomats jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth set. F&M had to fight off a late 11-4 surge by McDaniel before ultimately keeping the Green Terror at arm's length, winning the set 25-21. A kill from Grace Maggiore clinched the match victory for the Diplomats.
Allison Franke paced the Diplomats with 12 kills.
Carlita Bozzo's team-leading 27 digs matched her season-high against Swarthmore on Oct. 5.
Maggiore recorded a double-double with 29 points and 16 digs.
