BALTIMORE, Md. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team suffered its first Centennial Conference (CC) defeat of the year, losing to No. 7 Johns Hopkins, 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 7-15), in the final regular season match of the season.
The Diplomats fell to 19-5, 9-1 CC while the Blue Jays improved to 27-0, 10-0 CC.
Johns Hopkins took an 8-1 lead in the opening set, including a 5-0 run to kick off the contest. The Diplomats battled back to within two points, 8-6, but the Blue Jays rattled off a 17-9 run to clinch the 25-15 set.
F&M held a 5-4 lead early in set two. The Diplomats stayed tight with the Blue Jays, down just 17-15 before an 8-0 run by Johns Hopkins closed out the set.
After the Diplomats won the first point of the third set, Johns Hopkins took 14 consecutive points, including nine Natalie Aston service aces, to take a 14-1 lead. The Blue Jays took nine of the final 15 points to win the set, 25-7, and clinch the match.
Allison Franke led F&M with seven kills and three service aces.
Carlita Bozzo's 12 digs paced the defense.
As the second seed in the CC tournament, F&M has earned a first-round bye in the playoffs. The Diplomats face McDaniel on Saturday in the CC Tournament Semifinals in Baltimore, Md.
