ARLINGTON, Va. - The Franklin & Marshall volleyball team lost just its second match of the season in Friday night's opener of the Marymount Invitational, falling 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 23-25) to the tournament host, Marymount.
The Diplomats' record falls to 6-2, while the Saints' record improves to 3-6.
F&M and Marymount appeared destined for a close opening set. With the score at 11-9, the Saints went on an 11-5 run to go up 22-16 en route to a 25-19 set victory.
The Diplomats and Saints were tied 21-21 in set two before Marymount took three straight points and four of the final five to take the set, 25-22.
With its back against the wall, F&M took a commanding 16-9 lead to open the final set. Marymount went on a miraculous 11-0 run to go up 20-16. With their backs against the wall, the Diplomats surged to even the score, 23-23, before Marymount ultimately took the final two points to clinch the set and the match.
F&M wraps up the Marymount Invitational with two matches on Saturday. The Diplomats are slated to face Meredith at 12:00 p.m. and Emory & Henry at 2:00 p.m.
