F&M Sweeps Both Saturday Matches to Wrap-Up North Country Invitational

CANTON, N.Y. – Franklin & Marshall's volleyball team won both non-conference matches in their Saturday doubleheader. The Diplomats swept Brockport, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22), and blanked the host, St. Lawrence University, 3-0 (15-16, 25-15, 25-14) to deal the Saints their first loss of the season.

F&M ended the weekend with a 6-1 overall record on the season while Brockport fell to 2-6 and St. Lawrence fell to 7-1.

Match 1 – F&M 3, Brockport 0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-22)

The Diplomats opened their match with the Golden Eagles facing a 22-19 deficit in the opening set. F&M finished the frame with a 6-1 run, capped by an Allison Franke kill, to win 25-23.

F&M and Brockport were tied 20-20 in set two before the Golden Eagles took a 23-21 lead. The Diplomats surged back to stun Brockport again and took a 25-23 set victory, clinched by an Amy Mullen service ace. 

The Diplomats opened the third set with an 18-11 run, but a resilient Brockport squad battled back to tie the score 21-21. Ultimately F&M kept them at arm's reach and took the set 25-22 to complete the sweep.

Mullen led the offensive attack with nine kills.

The defense was guided by Grace Maggiore's 18 digs and Franke's three blocks. 

Match 2 – F&M 3, St. Lawrence 0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-14)

The Diplomats came out firing on all cylinders in the opening set with St. Lawrence. F&M began the match with an 11-2 run and took the set 25-16, solidified by a Delaney Hahn kill.  

F&M looked to dominate from the onset of the second frame, opening with a 17-6 advantage. The Saints battled back to narrow the deficit to 18-12, but the Diplomats regained control and finished with a 7-3 run.

The Diplomats opened the final set at an 11-6 advantage. St. Lawrence battled to make the score 11-10, but F&M went on a 9-0 run to take a 20-10 lead en route to a 25-14 set victory and a 3-0 sweep of the previously-unbeaten Saints.  

Carlita Bozzo led the defense with 18 digs while Amy Mullen paced the Diplomats' offense with seven kills. 

The Diplomats play Marymount on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in the opening night of the Marymount Invitational in Arlington, Va.
