Women's Outdoor Track & Field Primed for 2022 CC Championships

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's track & field team is poised to make a lot of noise at this weekend's 2022 Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships. The Diplomats have 21 top-10 seeds in addition to the top-ranked 4x800 relay entering the weekend. Ursinus will serve as the host of the conference's outdoor championship which gets underway on Friday, May 6 and continues through Sunday, May 8.

The Diplomats are favored to win the 4x800 relay after returning all four individuals who were a part of that record-breaking relay last spring. Individually, senior June Sanchez is seeded second in the 800 meters while junior Alysse Danyi is among the top 10. Seniors Elizabeth O'Connell and Lexi Salerno were also on that record relay last spring and are seeded fifth and seventh, respectively, coming into the 1,500 meters. Junior Sydney Dzenutis and sophomore Tatum Evans will both enter the conference championship ranked among the top 10 in the 400 meters.

In the hurdles, first-year Christline Edward has rejuvenated the team's efforts in those events. She is ranked second in the 400 meter hurdles where she will be looking to move up the national rankings and secure a spot in the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Diplomats' rookie is also seeded fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. Edward should also play a key role in the relays where F&M is seeded fifth in the 4x400 and sixth in the 4x100.

Throughout the distance events, senior Freya Lindvall continues to put down massive personal bests in the steeplechase and will enter that event as the No. 6 seed. Junior Emma Kline also put up a huge PR this past weekend and is now ranked 10th in the 5,000 meters coming into the weekend.

A number of throwers are in prime position to score for the Diplomats. Junior Jillian Barger is F&M's highest seeded thrower, ranking third in the hammer. A threat in multiple events, Barger is also ranked sixth in the high jump, joining sophomore teammate Julianne Cadden in the top 10 of that event. Emma Steffan has the potential for numerous points as she is seeded fourth in the hammer, sixth in the shot put, and 10th in the shot put after earning a silver medal in the weight throw during the winter season. First-year Aspen Mazzatta is the team's top-ranked discus thrower (fourth) and additionally gives F&M a trio of top 10 seeds in the hammer. Rachel Caruso will led the Diplomats' javelin efforts as she is ranked fifth in that event.

Another threat to score in multiple events, junior Abby Lienhard is seeded third in the long jump where she took home a bronze medal during the CC indoor championships. Sophomore Stephani Franks is the No. 6 seed in the pole vault entering championship weekend.
