Burke, Ulrich Wins Doubles Draw at ITAs


FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Kayley Burke and Caroline Ulrich paced Franklin & Marshall's women's tennis team at this weekend's ITA Southeast Regional Championship, hosted by Mary Washington, winning the D Doubles bracket with a perfect 2-0 mark.

Burke and Ulrich opened action with a convincing 8-0 shutout of Arcadia in their opening match before rolling to an 8-4 victory against a duo from Stevenson to secure the title. 

Sammi Perry and Skye Victor teamed up in the B Doubles draw and earned an 8-1 Consolation win over Stevenson before bowing out in the next round by an 8-5 tally.

In singles action, Clara March Okuyama represented F&M in the Championship Singles bracket and won a tight 8-7 match against Wilkes in the Consolation round. Victor competed in the B Singles bracket and won her opening match by a 6-1, 6-1 score over Christopher Newport.

Perry reached the Semifinals of the C Singles draw after downing Sweet Briar's Emily Wandling in a super tiebreaker and then shutting out a foe from Stevenson by a 6-0, 6-0 mark. However, she just missed out on advancing to the finals after dropping a 6-4, 6-2 match.

Ulrich also picked up a straight-set win (6-2, 6-3) against St. Mary's Hannah Gorel in the E Singles bracket.

The ITA's marked the end of the fall campaign for F&M.
