LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's swimming team qualified 15 more swimmers to their respective event finals on Sunday and officially locked up fourth place in the final team standings. The Diplomats scored 970.5 team points over the three-day event, rounding out the competition with a third-place finish in the 400 Freestyle relay.
Freestyle was a very strong stroke overall for the Diplomats as they sent five to the 100 Freestyle finals. Julie McFadden (53.06) was the highest finisher of that group, taking fifth. Olivia Lockey (54.24) and Helen Lahmann-Metcalfe (54.77) were 11th and 15th, respectively, while Rachel Baker and Ruhbani Sidhu both qualified to the "C" final and earned key team points. The other big freestyle event was the 1,650 Yard (mile) event. Georgia May finished the ultimate distance challenge in fourth with a time of 17:54.84. Sarah Gartner (18:40.35) joined her teammate in the top 10, with Maggie Sjostedt (18:43.30) touched just after Gartner.
Sophie Moyer wrapped up her big individual weekend just two tenths of a second away from breaking her own school record in the 200 Breaststroke (2:23.61). That time still placed her third in the field as Catherine Crampton, Maya Blaisure, and Jenna Lu joined her in that event final. Sophie Bergstrom was F&M's top finisher - placing 14th - in the 200 Backstroke (2:12.73). Amelia Bothwell represented the Diplomats in the 200 Butterfly final (2:18.58), notching a 20th place showing.
With its big event of the fall semester now complete, the Diplomats will break from competition for the remainder of the semester. Home duals against Susquehanna (Jan. 14) and Washington College (Jan. 28) wrap up the home regular season slate. A dual at Bryn Mawr (Jan. 21) will fit in between those two competitions.
