LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 24 Franklin & Marshall women's soccer team (6-1-3, 1-1-2 CC) played McDaniel (5-2-4, 3-0-2 CC) to a scoreless draw Wednesday evening in its Centennial Conference game at Tylus Field. It is the third scoreless tie for the Diplomats this season.
F&M outshot McDaniel 15-8 in the game, but the teams were even on shots on goal with four each. Each team only registered one shot on target during the first half of play as a majority of the first 45 minutes was played in between the boxes.
The Diplomats had a flurry of opportunities to break the scoreless tie in the second half, with the biggest chance coming from a curving shot from Dahlia Pepe that narrowly went wide of the top left corner of the net in the 57th minute. Transitioning from defending a corner kick to the offensive attack, F&M found Meg O'Callahan in stride trying to escape a McDaniel defender in 83rd minute. O'Callahan fired a clear shot that steered wide right of the target. The last scoring attempt for the Diplomats came from Alison Francis in the 87th minute that was scooped up by the McDaniel goalkeeper.
The Green Terror's biggest shot to take the lead came in the 43rd minute when a corner kick found McDaniel's Jessica Weinoldt in front of the F&M net. Weinoldt got off a clean header, but Emma Nolan was positioned perfectly to corral the shot and extinguish the scoring opportunity.
The Diplomats travel to play Bryn Mawr Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
