Series History

The Diplomats are set to take the short trip down Route 283 to face Elizabethtown for the 25th time in school history. The Blue Jays hold the series edge over the Diplomats by a 15-7-2 margin, winning the last three matchups by identical 2-0 scorelines. F&M looks to win only its second game on the road against Elizabethtown, as the Diplomats' only victory as visitors came 20 years to the day (9/20/1999) of their Tuesday clash.

Goucher and F&M aim to rekindle a rivalry on Saturday, facing each other for the first time in 13 years, after previously meeting every season for 13 years (1993-2006). The Diplomats carry a 10-game winning streak into the matchup, topping the Gophers by a 48-5 margin in those victories.

Last Week

The Diplomats split a pair of non-conference road matches, besting York College 2-1 on Wednesday, before dropping their first match of the season to Penn State-Berks by a 1-0 scoreline on Saturday.

F&M was carried by the first goals of the season from Emily Cleary and Nicolette Runko against York, holding on for the victory after staking a two-goal lead. The Diplomats weren't as lucky on the weekend despite dominating Penn State on the stat sheet, outshooting the Nittany Lions by a 13-5 margin. A turnover deep in Diplomat territory in the 61st minute led to the eventual game-winner for Penn State-Berks.

Parity Abounds

Where is the next F&M goal coming from? It could be anyone, as showcased in the first three games of the season. All seven Diplomat goals have come from a different player: Meg O'Callahan, Delaney Bessel, Anna Coleman, Catie Kaseta, Emily Cleary, and Nicolette Runko.

Could History Repeat?

It's been nearly nine seasons since the Diplomats have started a season 3-1. Coincidentally in that 2010 season, F&M's first three games ended in identical score lines to the first three in 2019 (5-0 & 2-1 victories, and a 1-0 loss). Their fourth game? A 3-2 victory over, you guessed it, Elizabethtown.
