CARLISLE, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's golf team continued its strong fall with its lowest score to date as the Diplomats shot 337 as a team to place second out of eight complete teams at the Dickinson Invitational on Saturday.
The Diplomats were bested only by Centennial Conference associate member Marymount (Va.) who shot 328 as a team. The Diplomats did top four other Centennial Conference schools in addition to Division II Kutztown University during the 18-hole tournament.
Janire Vela turned in the team's low card with F&M's best round of the fall to date (81). That score placed her in a tie for second in the individual standings. Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Bryn Fitchett and Reilly Melvin both earned top 10 finishes with scores of 84. Fitchett's score matched her low round of the fall, while Melvin's was one shot better than the first-year's previous collegiate best. Claire Hill was the team's fourth scorer with an 88. Lauren Chen registered a 93 as all five Diplomats placed in the top 25 of the 50 player field.
Women's golf will have one last chance to showcase its talents this fall before playing the majority of its schedule during the spring season. That last competition of the fall semester will come on Friday, October 7 when the team competes once again at the Carlisle Barracks Golf Course in a tri-match with Dickinson and McDaniel.
