LANCASTER, Pa. – The offensive attack of the Franklin & Marshall field hockey team (6-3, 2-0 CC) was on full display during its 3-0 victory over Mary Washington (4-5) Saturday afternoon.
Darby Klopp put the Diplomats on the scoreboard in the second quarter, capitalizing on a loose ball in front of the Mary Washington net. Sophie Carroll put a shot on goal that was saved by the outstretched foot of the UMW goalkeeper. Klopp batted the rebound through the keeper's legs and into the net for her fourth goal in three games.
F&M extended their lead with two third-quarter scores from Keira Boensch and Grace Fass. After the Diplomats drew a penalty corner with just under five minutes left in the quarter, Boensch deflected a pass from Katie Roper into the net. The score is Boensch's third goal of the season. Roper and Carolina Riley were each credited with an assist on the play. F&M's third goal came late in the third period when Klopp's pass found Grace Fass in front of the net. Fass chipped her shot over the goalkeeper for her first career goal.
The Diplomats bombarded the Mary Washington net, firing 19 shots with 11 on net in the game. Although Sydney Lippe didn't face a shot in the contest, Lippe was active in goal by breaking up multiple crossing passes in front of the net.
