LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team (1-1) picked up its first win of the 2022-23 season, 73-71, over Penn State-Harrisburg (0-1) Saturday afternoon in the Terry Greene Tip-Off Classic held at the Mayser Center.
The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead as they scored nine unanswered points to start the game. Natalie Kolb accounted for five points in the span as she knocked down a three-pointer and two free throws.
The Lions followed up with a 16-6 stretch to take a one-point lead. From that point, the two teams traded buckets as the lead changed several times in the half. After a three-pointer from Quinn Galligan and a layup from Lizzie Neville, F&M took a 31-30 lead into the halftime break.
Leading 37-34, Kolb and Kennedy Wilburn tossed in two free throws each to make it a 41-34 game with 3:22 left in the third quarter. The Diplomats held a six-point lead going into the final frame.
Penn State-Harrisburg fought its way back to take a 51-50 lead with 6:36 left in regulation. Once again, both teams traded baskets for multiple lead changes in the fourth quarter. In the final 36 seconds of play, the Diplomats went a perfect 8-for-8 at the charity stripe to slip past the Lions.
Kolb and Wilburn led F&M in scoring as both finished with 18 points each. Wilburn tallied a double-double as she also collected 15 rebounds in the win. Kolb was huge at the charity stripe as she knocked down 13-of-14 (92.9 percent) from the free throw line. Galligan racked up 10 points, while knocking down two three-pointers in the contest. Neville and Jaclyn Feit each finished with nine points. Feit also nabbed nine rebounds and swatted four shots.
Franklin & Marshall advances to play Elizabethtown in the Championship game of the Terry Greene Tip-Off Tournament Sunday at 3:00 p.m. in the Mayser Center.
