Basketball Teams Hold Reading Day at Burrowes Elementary School

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall men's and women's basketball teams held their inaugural book drive during the final week of the regular season, collecting donations during the February 13 Centennial Conference doubleheader versus Dickinson. Last week, the Diplomats had the chance to deliver those books in person to Burrowes Elementary School.

During their trip to the local school, the coaches and players had the chance to sit in the classroom and read those books to the children. In addition to being a tremendous thrill for the children, the experience was a great chance for the current team to give back to the local community.

Molly Flanagan, a first-year player on the Franklin & Marshall women's basketball team commented, "I gained an insight of the younger Lancaster Community and the importance of an early education to create a foundation for one's future."

Junior men's basketball player Mark Suchy added, "It was a great experience, specifically being able to tangibly see the impact our book drive had on the community."

Similar sentiments were shared by all members of the team, while the students and teachers at Burrowes Elementary School were overcome with excitement following the event. Photos from the event can be found on the Burrowes Elementary School Facebook page.

With a great experience had by all, the teams and Burrowes Elementary teachers and staff are looking for more dates in the future to invite the Diplomats back to the classroom for reading days.
