LANCASTER, Pa. – The No. 7 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team (12-2-4, 7-0-2 CC) lost to Muhlenberg (8-5-6, 3-1-5 CC) 2-0 in the semifinal round of the Centennial Conference Tournament Friday evening at Tylus Field. Muhlenberg scored its goals in the second minute and 75th minute of the match to push past the Diplomats to advance to the CC championship.
F&M had its chances throughout the game, as the Diplomats put up 19 shot attempts with seven on goal. The Diplomats put pressure on the Muhlenberg net in the 27th minute as Philip Monos sent a shot that was saved by the Mules' goalkeeper. The rebound bounced back out to Koa Kaliebe, who fired an attempt that was blocked by a defender and cleared away from the cage.
Down 1-0 in the 67th minute, the Diplomats played the ball deep into the offensive area. Shay Adamson found Kaliebe at the top of the box for a shot attempt, but Kaliebe's strike clanged off the left post and bounced away from the box. Moments later, Nathan Schlessinger sent a shot from distance that sailed wide of the frame and out of play for a goal kick.
Two minutes later, Monos found Oscar Horwitz in stride at the top of the box. Horwitz rocketed a shot that was swatted away by the Muhlenberg goalkeeper to keep the Diplomats off the scoreboard.
Monos and Schlessinger led the F&M offense, tallying two shots on goal each in the contest.
No. 7 Franklin & Marshall finishes with an overall record of 12-2-4 and a conference record of 7-0-2. The Diplomats will await a potential bid in the NCAA Tournament during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show on Monday at 1:30 p.m.
