Box Score

LANCASTER, Pa. – Alex Lalovic buried a feed from Shay Adamson in the 105th minute to deliver the No. 6 Franklin & Marshall men's soccer team a thrilling 2-1 2OT victory over William Paterson on Wednesday evening.

The non-conference win improved the Diplomats to 7-1 with their sixth straight victory, while the Pioneers dropped to 3-3-2 overall.

Midway through the second overtime stanza, F&M's relentless offensive attack hit paydirt when Shay Adamson slid a short pass to Lalovic on the left side of the box. The junior forward made the most of his opportunity and placed the ball to the lower right side of the net for the game-winner.

The Diplomats' defense put forth a dominant effort, allowing just one shot to reach goalkeeper Christopher Amoruso (7-1).

Regulation began without much tempo to the game as both teams fought to establish control. In the 23rd minute, a sliding through pass from Brandon Perezous found Steven Yakita on the left side of the field. Yakita beat his defender and blasted a shot that ricocheted off the Pioneer goalkeeper and into the top of the net for the 1-0 lead.

Neither offense gained much traction for the remainder of the first as the Diplomats went into the halftime break with a 5-2 edge in shots and a 1-0 advantage in corners.

In the second, a costly Diplomat foul at the top of the box led to a Pioneer penalty kick chance in the 46th. William Paterson converted the scoring opportunity with a successful shot to the bottom right side to even the contest.

Just three minutes later, Kopacz nearly retook advantage off a failed clear attempt in the box by a Pioneer defender, stepping in front of the ball and firing a shot back on net. The sophomore forward opted for the lower-right corner of the net but William Paterson's netminder was there for the diving stop.

A Pioneer counterattack in the 54th minute nearly put William Paterson in front, but F&M goalkeeper Christopher Amoruso stormed off his lined to nullify the opportunity by sliding to the turf and collecting the ball.

With nine minutes remaining, Christian Avila Neres caused a turnover just outside the William Paterson 18-yard box and nearly put the Diplomats in front, but saw his low attempt on net turned back by the Pioneer goalkeeper.

In the opening minutes of overtime, Jack Brandt connected with Kopacz in the center of the box with a bouncing cross but Kopacz's attempt was fired directly at the Pioneer 'keeper.

The ball remained in F&M's offensive third throughout the overtime periods before the Diplomats put the game away with Lalovic's tally.

Shots were heavily in F&M's favor at 34-5, including a 9-0 edge in overtime. Kopacz led the effort with eight shots.

F&M returns to the field for a key tilt against Haverford on the road Saturday. The rematch of last year's Centennial Championship is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
