PHILADELPHIA – In a stellar two-day performance, Josh Geller and Liam Seibold represented the Franklin & Marshall men's rowing team and took fifth in the Grand Final of the men's double at the 83rd annual Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia on Friday and Saturday.
Their performance marked a strong close to the Diplomats' 2022 season as the Dad Vail is the largest collegiate regatta in North America. Geller and Seibold beat crews from Drexel University, Penn State, Grand Valley State, Georgia Tech and others, in order to secure a position in the Grand Final.
"These two guys put on a great showing over two days and they should be proud of what they accomplished," said Head Coach Bob Brady. "It wasn't an easy season for them, but they made the most of it by winning our conference in the double, and putting together an amazing regatta in Philadelphia."
The Diplomats raced three times over the two-day regatta. The crew solidified its spot in the semifinals with a time of 7:17.13 during its first race of the weekend. During that semifinal, F&M placed third out of six boats and advanced to the Grand Final with a time of 7:18.58.
In the final race of the season, the Diplomats took fifth in the race and defeated the crew from Drexel while racing very competitively with the second through fourth place boats. F&M continued to showcase its consistency with a time of 7:17.75 during the Grand Final.
With no seniors of the 2021-22 roster, the Diplomats will build on the valuable experience of a full season of collegiate competition this past year. With a talented returning team joining forces with incoming recruits, Franklin & Marshall will be poised for even greater success in the 2022-23 season.
