LORTON, Va. – The Franklin & Marshall men's rowing team had a successful run during the 2022 Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships, which saw the Double capture gold in the grand final. The regatta was held on the Occoquan Reservoir in Virginia.
The Diplomats' double was dominant from the opening race as it took the heat by 41 seconds with a time of 7:22.6. That race determined the lanes for the finals where F&M once again emerged victorious by nearly 19 seconds over Stockton, crossing the line in a time of 7:42.4.
The Novice 4 competed in the petite final after taking fifth in the heat races. The Diplomats improved their time during the afternoon session and defeated Stockton, a crew they lost to by two-tenths of a second in the heats, with a time of 7:59.9 to take second place in that race.
"Across the board, this was a solid and successful day of racing for the men's team at MARCs," said head coach Bob Brady. "The men's double is still finding its groove and has been getting better every day, while the novice men are showing that consistency in training is key - from one race to the next, great improvements can happen."
In addition to the races, MARC's officials recognized the all-conference and all-novice teams. Three Diplomats were recognized as All-MARC rowers.
Men's rowing will continue its postseason in two weeks when the team takes part in the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. That event gets underway on Friday, May 13 and will continue into Saturday, May 14.
