LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall defeated Dickinson 64-53 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats improved to 9-13, 5-10 CC, and the Red Devils fell to 3-19, 3-12 CC.
The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead with threes by Les Thomas and Justin Kupa and an Ignas Slyka bucket at 18:17 make it 8-0. Scoring slowed over the next five minutes with just four points score by Dickinson to make it 8-0, but F&M answered with a 14-0 run over the next six minutes and took an 18-point, 22-4, at 7:29. The Red Devils responded by outscoring F&M 21-8 the remainder with F&M lead by five, 30-25, at the break.
Slyka and Kupa both netted eight in the first for the Diplomats.
Seven points from Solomon Mathis put the Diplomats ahead by 10, 39-29, three minutes into the second and two free throws by Matt Redhead at 14:29 made 43-31. Dickinson went on a 13-3 run during the six minutes to come within two, but the Diplomats countered with eight straight for a 54-44 edge with a little less than five to play. The Red Devils came within seven down the stretch, but F&M scored the final four points of the game to secure the win.
F&M outshot Dickinson 45%-32%, but the Red Devils had a 36-31 edge on the glass.
The Diplomats return to action on Sunday when F&M travels to Muhlenberg for a 3:00 p.m. game.
