LANCASTER, Pa. – Washington defeated Franklin & Marshall 55-43 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 7-12, 3-9 CC while the Shoremen improved to 7-12, 5-7 CC.
Justin Kupa scored six points in the opening four minutes to put F&M ahead 10-2, but Washington netted the next seven points to come within one, 10-9, at 13:35. The Diplomats answered with a 9-0 run over the six minutes and took a 10-point lead, 19-9, with a little less than seven minutes to go. The Shoremen stayed within reach and ended the half with a 7-2 spurt and only trailed by two, 21-18, at the break.
The Shoremen continued their run into the second with a 9-2 spurt to open the half and took a 27-23 lead. F&M netted four straight and tied the game at 27-27, but that was as close as they would get as the Shoremen outscored F&M 9-1 over the next seven minutes for a 36-28 advantage. The Diplomats came within six, 36-30, at 6:40 before Washington scored eight straight for a 44-30 lead and never trailed by more than eight the rest of the game.
F&M returns to action on Thursday when the Diplomats travel to McDaniel for an 8:00 p.m. game.
