LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall picked up a convincing 63-50 victory over McDaniel in Centennial Conference (CC) men's basketball action Thursday evening. The Diplomats improved to 6-6, 2-3 CC, while the Green Terror dropped to 4-8, 0-5 CC.
After a back-and-forth battle to start the game, F&M went ahead 7-6 on a Justin Kupa triple four minutes into the game. The Diplomats increased their to lead to five, 11-6, but the Green Terror answered with a 10-4 run and took a 16-15 lead with 7:32 left in the half. F&M countered with a 10-2 spurt to go up seven, 25-18, on a Justin Law layup and after three points by McDaniel, the Diplomats closed out the half with five straight for a 30-21 lead the break.
Kupa led all scorers with 17 points on 5-for-8 shooting in the first half.
F&M opened the second with an 18-3 run and took their largest lead of the game, 48-28, with 15:00 on the clock. McDaniel came within 17, 51-34, at 9:42 before the Diplomats quickly went back up 20, 54-34, a minute later. The Diplomats maintained a double-digit lead the remainder of the game to cruise to the victory.
F&M outshot McDaniel 59%-45%, but the Green Terror had a slight 26-25 edge on the glass.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday when F&M hosts No.1 Swarthmore at 2:00 p.m.
