COVID-19 Update - F&M Cancels Remainder of Spring Season

COVID-19 Update - F&M Cancels Remainder of Spring Season

March 18, 2020

Franklin & Marshall has canceled the remainder of its spring athletics schedule as a result of the current situation revolving around the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

F&M announced today that it has moved its academic curriculum to online learning for the remainder of the semester. Given CDC recommendations against public gatherings of 50 or more people for at least the next eight weeks, F&M is forced to postpone the spring Commencement ceremony. The College will choose another date and design a special graduation that is tailor-made for F&M's terrific Class of 2020.

Please monitor F&M's COVID-19 webpage at for any further updates, including campus communications and event cancellations.

NCAA Announces Blanket Waiver

The NCAA released the following statement recently:
Student-athlete seasons of participation and eligibility.  Approved a blanket waiver for all student-athletes participating in spring sports as follows: (a) Waive the use of a season of participation for all student-athletes in spring sports.  If an institution continues or re-starts its season, this relief would still exist; and (b) Waive the use of the spring semester towards their limit of 10 semesters/15 quarters, regardless of whether they used a season.
Spring athletes will retain this season of eligibility, and the spring semester will not count in the 10 semester limit for athletic participation.  Please know that all of the details of this blanket waiver have not been fully worked out.
