Student Athlete Leadership Council

What is SALC?

Franklin & Marshall College’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council (SALC) is a council made up of approximately 100 student-athlete representatives. SALC aims to provide a platform for student-athletes to create meaningful change both in the Franklin & Marshall and Lancaster community. Through numerous initiatives and events, this organization creates a connection between student-athletes and various campus groups, raises awareness for key issues, and allows Diplomats to share their voice by further developing valuable leadership skills.

SALC Mission Statement

To develop leadership qualities in Franklin & Marshall College student-athletes, establish leadership roles in local communities, and inspire teamwork and leadership.

SALC Inclusion Statement

All student-athletes and members of the Franklin & Marshall community are welcome to SALC meetings held every other Tuesday at 11:30 am.

Presently, there are separate national SALCs for NCAA Divisions I, II and III. NCAA legislation mandates that all member institutions have SALCs on their respective campuses. Further, NCAA legislation requires that all member conferences have SALCs.

For more information visit the Centennial Conference SALC Page or the NCAA SALC Page.

SALC’s key initiatives include:

Track-or-Treat: An event for youth to trick-or-treat on Halloween night in the safe environment of the College's Alumni Sports & Fitness Center.

Leadership Workshops: Each year, SALC hosts or runs various leadership workshops.

Diplomat Cup: A friendly competition between teams to celebrate all our student-athletes do when not competing.  Points are earned for team GPA, community service, attendance at SALC meetings, attendance at home athletic events, and attendance at other campus events.

FPS Appreciation Event: Annual event during which athletes invite professors and professional staff members to a reception in appreciation of their support of F&M athletics.

Brother-Sister Teams: Each team is paired with another of the opposite season. Brother-sister teams work together during the Track-or-Treat event and make an effort to support one another throughout the year.

Concessions: Organize concessions for all home games held on Tylus Field, Shadek Stadium or in Mayser Gymnasium raises money to support SALC endeavors.

Other Events we support include:

Virtual 5K: SALC conducted the first-ever Fit & Motivated Virtual 5K on April 17-19, 2020. F&M students, faculty and professional staff, as well as alumni, are ran at their own pace and timed it themselves at the location of their choosing. Prizes were awarded to the top-five finishers along with photo categories such as most-creative finish line photo, most F&M pride, and best-running scenery.
