Women runners take third in 11-team Sea Gull Opener Labor Day weekend; Men capture sixth in same event
Karen Ziga led the Diplomat runners over the Labor Day weekend, capturing second out of 87 runners to finish the 5K in 22 minutes, 36 seconds at the Sea Gull Invitational.
Coach Keith Dieterle's squad (77 points) got great depth to finish third behind Salisbury (47) and Mary Washington University (62).
Katie Byrne was 12th overall (24:04); captain Meredith Janeczek 17th (24:19); Virginia Earl 19th (24:33) and Colette Buchanan 27th (24:52) to round out the top five women.
For the men, Franklin Dekker was the top finisher (42nd in 28:05) in the 8K race. He was followed closely by Pavel Marosine and Harrison Miller (52nd and 53rd), Matthew Oleska (61st) and Ryan Birnbaum (72nd
