Diplomats Sweep Dickinson
Oct 22, 2008LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall swept Dickinson 3-0 in a critical Centennial matchup for the Diplomats, eyeing a conference tournament berth. The Diplomats improved to 4-3 (9-15 overall) in league play with three matches left on the slate. Dickinson, fell to 5-2 in the Centennial, and dipped below .500 at 10-11.
The Diplomats need three game points in the first, but a Margot Phelan spike followed by a Nicole Morano block gave the opener to F&M. Morano recorded a match-high 15 kills and 2.5 blocks in the win, while Phelan posted 11 kills and 10 digs for the Diplomats.
Dickinson opened a 7-1 run in the second game on a Kristen Lee six-point service run, but the Diplomats responded with a nine-point run sparked by Pam Horner’s ace to make it 15-10 in favor of F&M. The Diplomats did not look back from there.
F&M ripped open the third game with an 8-2 lead. Dickinson cut it to two, 12-10, but unforced errors unraveled Dickinson in the final frame.
Pam Horner turned in a solid night for F&M. She set up 26 kills, served a pair of aces, and dug out the defense eight times.
Elly Gosheva recorded a Dickinson-best 12 kills, working at the net on the left side. She had as many digs for the Devils. Amanda Hayes posted a match-high 24 digs. Lee recorded 10 kills, two aces, and 13 digs.
The Diplomats are now 4-2 at home on the year, and will play two
of their final three matches at the Mayser Center against Bryn Mawr
and Swarthmore after traveling to Muhlenberg this Saturday.
