Diplomats Ace Way Into Semifinals
Nov 5, 2008LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall used 14 aces to sweep Dickinson 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-19) in the first round of the Centennial Conference Volleyball Championship Tournament. Erica Spangler and Pam Horner each recorded four aces for F&M, which advances on to Saturday’s semifinal at Gettysburg.
The win was the Diplomats (13-15) second sweep of the Red Devils (11-14) in the Mayser Center this season.F&M hit with a .234 percentage in the match.
All four of Spangler’s aces all came in a row. The Diplomats trailed 15-11 in the first game when Spangler rallied the squad to knot it at 15-15. The Diplomats closed out the game from there with a 10-4 run on that included two of Horner’s aces.
In addition to her aces, Spangler posted 10 digs while Horner added 13 digs, 13 assists and four kills to the F&M cause. Margot Phelan posted a match-high 11 kills and 14 digs for F&M. Lis Power also posted 14 digs. Valerie Pusateri had 17 assists for the Diplomats.
Dickinson got nine kills and 10 digs from Kristen Lee. Libero, Amanda Hayes bailed out Dickinson with 17 digs.
Franklin & Marshall will face Gettysburg in Saturday’s semifinal at noon.
