Diplomats Compete Over Spring Break

ORLANDO, Fl. - Jenna Ishkanian was a double winner in both singles and doubles play for the Franklin & Marshall women's tennis team over spring break in Orlando, Florida.

The Diplomats opened up their spring season with a convincing 8-1 win over Southeastern University, but dropped a close 5-4 decision to UW-Eau Claire and fell to Trinity, 5-4. In the win over the Lady Fire, F&M swept the singles sets and went 2-for-3 in doubles.

Dana Russo and Kelsey Tylus paired up for an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, before Ishkanian and Valeri Harteg combined for an 8-2 victory. Russo, Tylus and Ishkanian went on to win their singles matches. Playing at No. 1, Dani Barish tallied a 7-5, 6-2 victory, while Cecily Koss did not lose a game at the fifth spot and Erica Wood earned a 6-3, 6-4 win for the sweep at singles.

In the second match of the week, the Blugolds split the singles matches and won two out of the three doubles to edge the Diplomats. Ishkanian and Harteg collected their second doubles win with an 8-4 decision. Barish made it two in a row in the top spot in a three set game (5-7, 6-3, 6-2) and Barish defeated Kristie Carlson 7-6, 6-4. The final singles win came from Koss with scores of 6-0, 6-1.

Trinity won all but one set, leaving the lone F&M win to Ishkanian, who posted a 6-0, 6-1 win over Jillian Steckloff for her second singles victory of the trip.

The Diplomats return to action on Tuesday against Gettysburg. Match time is 4 p.m.
