F&M Women Sail by Bears

LANCASTER, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's women's swim team won seven of the day's first eight events to cruise to a 110-80 win over Ursinus in Centennial Conference (CC) swimming action on Saturday.
The Diplomats (4-5, 2-2 CC) raced out to a 15-2 lead taking first and second place points in the 200-yard medley releay. Brittany McCabe, Ali Neugebauer, Jennie Payne, and Lucia Parry delivered 11-points taking first place at 1:56.29. That group was followed in Denie Kossuth, Laura Bassford, Brittany Gray, and Maureen McCluskey at 2:01.27, giving them a 3.31 seconds on Ursinus' entry.
The Bears (4-6, 0-5) answered right back with Kate Snyder winning the 1,650 freestyle (18:37.93), followed in by teammate Emily Herman (18:39.23), but F&M swept the next six events to pick up the win.
Meghan Karanian won two of those six races, sparking the run with a win in the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.47). Angela Millham touched second at 2:05.3. Three races later, the same pair finished in the same order in the 100-yard version of the stroke. Karanian touched in 56.57. Millham touched at 58.05, while McCluskey made it a clean sweep grabbing third at 58.22.
McCabe won the 50-free in 25.77 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.91, while Bassford took the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.73. Jennie Payne capped the six-event run with a 5:25.33 win in the 500-yard freestyle. F&M swam for exhibition the remainder of the way.
With the win, F&M improves to 4-5 (2-2 CC). The Diplomats return to action Friday evening at McDaniel.
