Elfring Claims NCAA Statistical Title
Jun 23, 2009
LANCASTER, Pa. – The NCAA confirmed what opposing pitchers already knew, Caitlin Elfring (Glen Rock, N.J. / Glen Rock), a rising senior at Franklin & Marshall College, was the nation’s toughest player to strike out in NCAA Division III in 2009.
F&M’s Director of Athletics and Recreation, Patricia S.W. Epps was notified via email Tuesday morning that Elfring “is the 2009 NCAA Division III statistical champion for Toughest To Strikeout.” The Diplomats’ first bagger did not strike out once for the duration of the 2009 season. She appeared in 35 games with 34 starts and 78 at bats. Elfring was near perfect in the field as well, posting a .995 fielding percentage with a single error over 190 chances this season.
The Diplomats finished their second season under Mike Cooperstein with a record of 16-20, marking a six-game improvement from the 2008 campaign and the most wins since the 2004 season.
