Diplomats Win a Pair

LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall swept visiting
Penn State-Hazleton Friday afternoon in a non-conference
doubleheader. The Diplomats (15-15, 2-7 CC) defeated the Lions 4-1
in the first game and needed only five innings to win the second
game 14-1.
Meredith Morgan pitched lights out softball, striking out 14-of-25
batters. Morgan (7-3) allowed four hits and one run in seven
innings of work. The lone run came off a solo shot to left field by
Jennifer Edsall in the fourth.
The Diplomats started off slow, getting their first run off a
Samantha Basuk single in the fourth frame. Basuk added another run
in the fifth when she doubled to center field, making the score
2-1.
Franklin & Marshall scored two more runs in the sixth. The
first came from Barbara Sasso when her bunt plated Lauren Incorvaia
from third. Kelly Marchisio’s single to left two batters
later scored Sasso, giving the Diplomats a 4-1 lead.
Sasso finished the contest going 2-for-3, scoring once and
knocking in two RBIs.
Edsall absorbed the loss. She allowed nine hits and gave up four
runs.
It did not take the Diplomats long to get the bats going in the
second game. They exploded for five runs in the second inning and
eight more in the third. Kristina Fietkiewicz started the scoring
in the second frame with her second home run of the week.
Sara Damato picked up the win for the Diplomats. Damato (3-8)
allowed one run on three hits.
Jessica Feldman led the way from the plate, hitting 2-for-2,
scoring two and knocking in three runs. Damato also hit three RBIs,
hitting 2-for-3 and scoring two runs.
The Diplomats travel to Gallaudet tomorrow for a doubleheader
starting at 1:00 p.m.
