A two-time All-America choice and three-time Intercollegiate
Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Metro Region
First Team selection for the Diplomats, Lauren Paul ’03,
became the 10th women’s lacrosse coach in the program’s
history in September, 2008.
In addition to earning national and regional honors, Paul was also
a three-time All-Centennial Conference First Team nod, one of only
eight players in league-history to accomplish that feat. As a
senior, she served as team captain under then first year head
coach, Anne Phillips. Phillips resigned in June to assume the head
coaching position at Yale.
Paul’s name peppers F&M’s lacrosse record book.
She was the first player in the program’s history to score
100 goals and register 100 assists in her career. The Baltimore
native ranks second in career assists (103), sixth in career points
(242), and tenth in goals (139). Despite her impact on the record
books, Paul’s most indelible impression on the program may
lie in the fact that she is the origin of “YEER”, the
battlecry that has morphed into the symbol of Franklin &
Marshall’s women’s lacrosse tradition.
Beyond the lacrosse field, Paul made her presence felt in the
College’s campus life. She was a four-year member of the all
girls A Capella signing group and a participant in The Women's
Center program, Take Back the Night, aimed at raising awareness of
sexual assault and abuse on the campus and in the community. She
also presented research at Moravian College’s Student
Mathematical Conference.
Following her graduation from Franklin & Marshall, she assumed
an assistant coaching position at Lafayette University. At that
post, Paul was charged with the Leopards’ recruiting efforts
and budget management. On the field, she worked with
Lafayette’s attack and keepers. Two of her players earned
All-Patriot League honors, leading the team back to the Patriot
League Championships.
From Lafayette, she moved on to Centennial Conference rival
Dickinson where she coached under F&M alumna, Kasey Ryan
’99. The former duo of Diplomats led the Devils to their
first Centennial Conference Championship Tournament appearance in
2005 and followed that effort with showings in the 2006 and 2007
championships.
Brooke Young joins Franklin & Marshall as the first
full-time assistant women's lacrosse coach after spending three
seasons as the assistant varsity and head junior varsity coach at
Downingtown East High School.
As an undergraduate at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, Young was a four-year scholarship athlete for the
nationally-ranked Tar Heels. In 2002, she was a starter for the ACC
championship team that went on to the NCAA Final Four. Young was
also invited to try out for the United States National Development
Squad.
Professionally, Young was the women's lacrosse director at the
United Sports Training Center, helping organize and schedule
leagues, camps, clinic and tournament for all levels. She also
spent a year and a half as the Assistant Director of the
Downingtown Area Recreation Consortium and was a volunteer coaching
for the Triangle Area Lacrosse league from 2000-03. She has also
been a counselor for prestigious camps, including Maryland. Loyola,
Penn State and North Carolina.
Young graduated in May 2004 with a bachelor of arts degree in
Communication Studies from North Carolina. She resides in
Downingtown, Pa.
Carli McLaughlin enters her first season as an assistant coach with the Franklin & Marshall women's lacrosse team following an outstanding collegiate playing career with the Diplomats.
McLaughlin recently graduated from Franklin & Marshall with a B.A.in business, organizations, and society & studio art and joint major in creative marketing with a minor in italian. A defender for the Diplomats, she immediately made her way into the starting line-up in her debut season and helped F&M to the 2005 ECAC Championship title. The following year she appeared in 15 games, while the Diplomats headed to the NCAA tournament and advancing to the Elite Eight.
Her junior campaign, McLaughlin led F&M to win its first Centennial Conference (CC) Championship enroute to becoming the 2007 National Champions. The lone senior in 2008, she was nominated to be one of four captains. McLaughlin started in all 21 games, only giving up three turnovers all season. She was named CC Defensive Player of the Week and anchored a defense that posted a 6.71 goals-against average. McLaughlin also helped the Diplomats repeat as Conference Champions and return to the NCAA Semifinals, finishing runners-up. In her four years, F&M posted an impressive 69-10 record.
McLaughlin, a native of Garden City, NY, also works for
the 105.1 radio station in the marketing and promotions office
in addition to coaching lacrosse. She currently resides in
Lancaster, Pa.
