2009 Women’s Lacrosse Alumni Game

Nov 4, 2009

LANCASTER, Pa. -- On Sunday, October 25, 2009, Franklin & Marshall hosted the Second Annual Women's Lacrosse Alumnae game. The Alumnae returned to campus during Homecoming Weekend for the chance to challenge the current 2010 Diplomats on Tylus Field.

The game was an epic battle between Dip legends and champions. The close game showcased the tradition of excellence at Franklin & Marshall. Although, there were a couple of moments within the 60-minutes that veered a bit from that F&M tradition.

The current team happens to be the fittest team in the nation so when the alumnae's fitness level was challenged they devised an "untraditional" strategy.  Okay, maybe having more players on the field isn't within the rulebook but it sure did save some legs. Shannon Summers '09 decided to take a break from running the midfield by trying her very best at goaltending. When asked about her unexpected position change, Summers said, "These old bones just can't recover like they used to."

Luckily for the Alumnae, a fierce attack led by Melissa Kohler Justice '94 and Laura Langmore '02 kept the alumnae within reach of the win. But it was the defense, led by goalkeeper Chelsea Meerbach ‘09, which procured the victory for the alumnae.

Following the game the alumnae and current team could be found mingling with the always-supportive F&M parents. Everyone left the field filled with excitement for the 2010 lacrosse season.

Special thanks to all the alumnae who returned for Homecoming Weekend and to all alumnae from the classes of '09, '08, '07, '03, '02, and '94 for playing in the Alumnae game. We look forward to next year's game.
