Ziga Wins Centennial Gold in 5000

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Karen Ziga took gold in the 5,000-meter run, making her the first Diplomat since second half of the 1980's to win a conference gold medal in a distance event. Her time of 18:30.42 gave her 2.25 seconds on Dickinson's silver medal winning entry, Caitlin Strahota. It also gave Franklin & Marshall 10 of its 23.5 team points, leaving F&M in sixth place amongst the Centennial's 10 women's teams competing for the Conference title this weekend.

Haverford finished the day in first place with 57.5 points.

Laura Lautenbacher gave F&M 5.5 team points with a fourth place finish in the pole vault. She cleared the bar at 2.74 meters. Muhlenberg's Alexandra Faust won the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters.

Libby Haas, Megan Hunter, Vanessa Pabon, and Laura Hansen combined for a sixth place finish in the 4x200 relay with a time of 1:54.31. Haverford's foursome crossed in 1:49.56 for the gold medal. Haas and Hunter combined with Maggie Selzer and Shannon Weir for a fifth place finish in the Distance Medley Relay, scoring four team points with a 13:19.67. Dickinson won the event by re-setting the Conference meet standard at 12:27.62

Competition resumes on Sunday at Haverford.
