Catalano Breaks Record at LVC Invitational
Jan 31, 2009ANNVILLE, Pa. - Alyssa Catalano improved her national mark to 16.77m in the weight throw and set a new field record at the Arnold Sports Center at the Lebanon Valley Invitational on Saturday.
Catalano threw 55-00 to take first in the weight throw and shattered the 10-year old record of 48-07.25 set in 1999 to lead the Diplomats indoor track & field team to a third-place finish. The senior scored 18 of the squad's 45 points on the afternoon. Catalano also placed second in the shot put, hitting the mark of 37-01.
Lebanon Valley captured the invitational with a score of 140 and Catholic came in second, with F&M in third.
Erin Gleason recorded her best indoor shot put throw with a distance of 38-00 to win the event. She also took third in the weight throw with a 39-07 mark.
Catherine Westerduin collected 10 points for the Diplomats, finishing third in the 200m dash with a time of 30.9 for six points and fourth in the triple jump (9.42m) for four more points. She also competed in the long jump, taking eighth place with a leap of 4.18m.
Claire Marshall was the lone F&M competitor in the 55m hurdles, coming in sixth (12.0) and then finishing behind Westerduin in the 200m dash with a time of 32.4.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday at the Susquehanna Invitational. Meet time is 10 a.m.
