Catalano Repeats as Shot Put Champion
Mar 1, 2009
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Alyssa Catalano threw a personal-best 40-02.05 to repeat as the shot put champion at the 2009 Centennial Conference (CC) Indoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at Ursinus.
Catalano hit the 12.25m mark on her fifth try to earn 10 points for the Diplomats in her only event of the weekend. Erin Gleason had the next best finish on the day for F&M, taking fourth in the shot put with a distance of 37-10.00.
As a team, the Diplomats came in ninth place in the two-day event with 18 points. Haverford repeated as the champions, making it four consecutive CC crowns with 162 points. Johns Hopkins was a close second with 134.50 and Muhlenberg rounded out the top three with 74 points.
It seemed as if ninth place was the theme in the sprint events. Caitlin Regan and Henley Siegrist each placed ninth in the 400m and 200m dash, respectively. Regan ran 1:03.35 to take two seconds off her seeded time, while Siegrist clocked in at 27.31 for her best mark of the season.
Joining forces for the 4x400m relay, Regan, Siegrist, Amy Jordan, and Jenna Bush ran 4:22.43 for eighth place to add an extra point to the squad score.
