Diplomats Capture Bearcat Invite

LATROBE, Pa. - Franklin & Marshall's women's golf team shot 351 to edge Gettysburg by a single stroke, winning the eight-team Lady Bearcat Invitational on Friday. Three members of the Diplomats scoring four finished in the tournament's top five to secure the title.
Grace Gallagher and Meghan Maloney each shot an 83 to finish in a three-way tie for second place, one stroke behind Gettysburg's Leah Tuscano, the event's medalist. For Gallagher, the second place finish marks the 17th time she has finished in the top five of an event during her career. Maloney was playing the event of her career. Her classmate, Julia Fiala also finished in the top five, tied with Gettysburg's Molly Nulty for fifth. Saira Dar and Beth Holt each shot 100 to tie for 15th in the field of 36.
Franklin & Marshall and Gettysburg were alone in the competition for first place. Westminster finished 15 strokes behind the Bullets with Seton Hill an additional 18 strokes behind. The bottom half of the field was 115 strokes off of the championship pace.
The 351 marks a 54.8 shot improvement over the Diplomats' team average of a season ago. Last season's average was the best on record for the nine-year old program.
F&M is idle until the end of the month when the Diplomats compete at the Millersville Invitational.
