Gallagher Named Scholar All-American
Jul 1, 2009
LANCASTER, Pa. -- Franklin & Marshall College women’s
golfer, Grace Gallagher (Scotts Valley, CA / Archbishop
Mitty), was named to the National Golf Coaches Association
(NGCA) Scholar All-American team when it was announced Wednesday.
She is the first F&M women’s golfer to earn the honor and
the only golfer from the Centennial Conference selected this
season.
The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are
some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum
cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in
at least 50% (Division I) or 66% (Division II & III) of the
college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the
year.
A rising senior, Gallagher played 13.5 rounds in her junior
campaign averaging 90.5 shots per outing. That average marks the
single best season average since the program began in the 1999-2000
academic year. Jessica Kunkle’s 90.6 in 2004-2005 was the
previous record. Kunkle still holds the career record for average
at 90.88. Gallagher is flirting with that mark heading into her
final season. She has averaged 91.68 shots per round in her
career.
The National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams
for Division I, II & III honored a total of 410 women’s
collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor.
Gallagher was one of 67 honorees from Division III.
