Diplomats Battle Hopkins

LANCASTER, Pa. - The Johns Hopkins field hockey team scored goals just before halftime and just after halftime as the Blue Jays rallied from an early deficit to defeat Franklin & Marshall 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) action. The Diplomats fall to 6-6 and 2-4 in the conference. The #10 Blue Jays improve to 10-2 (5-1 CC).
F&M struck first, scoring at 6:49 to take an early 1-0 lead. Eileen O'Reilly one-timed a Kimmy Fisher pass from the right wing for the goal. The Diplomats applied pressure throughout the half, playing mostly in front of the Johns Hopkins cage. F&M held a 6-3 shot advantage in the half.
Ariana Branchini knotted the game at one apiece with less than 25 seconds remaining in the first half. Branchini received a corner from Brittany Bland and lofted the ball just over the head of F&M keeper Sarah Dileo. The Blue Jays struck again at the 39:28 mark when Meghan Kellett scored the game-winner off a rebound.
The Diplomats held an 11-9 shot advantage, with Allison McLaren and O'Reilly firing off two shots each.
Dileo stopped four shots in the loss. She falls to 1-1 on the season. Sophia Tieu picks up the win for Johns Hopkins, stopping five shots in the game.
Franklin & Marshall returns to the field on October 17th when the Diplomats host Haverford.
