Diplomats Down Devils

CARLISLE, Pa. - Allison Bauer scored the game-winning goal in the 61st minute as Franklin & Marshall defeated Dickinson 3-2 in a Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey game. The Diplomats (7-7, 3-5 CC) dominated in shots, holding a 16-8 advantage over the Red Devils (5-9, 3-4 CC).
The Red Devils struck early when Lizzie Boorse put back a rebound off a shot by Alyssa Sands at 2:21. The Diplomats answered five minutes later on hard blast at the top of the circle from Faith Musengezi. Kimmy Fisher put F&M up 2-1 when she knocked in a Maura Hennigan shot at 19:10. Sands knotted the game at two apiece with ten minutes remaining in the half.
Both defenses played strong throughout the second half. F&M keeper Naomi Stone (6-5) had two of her four saves in the half. She was outmatched by the Red Devils' Amanda West who picked up six of her seven saves in the stanza.
The Diplomats went up for good at 60:57 when Eileen O'Reilly's shot went high and Bauer deflected the ball in for the game-winner.
The Red Devils had a great chance with just over two minutes left to play. Sands hit the post with a shot before Katie Mersky looked to finish the rebound. F&M's Paulette Cutruzzula made a great defensive save behind Stone to preserve the win.
Franklin & Marshall returns to action on October 24th when the Diplomats host Muhlenberg. The game will be a part of the homecoming festivities and the F&M seniors will be honored before the game.
