READING, Pa. - Nora Kinney's goal on a penalty stroke proved to be the difference as Franklin & Marshall's field hockey team handed Alvernia a 3-2 setback on Wednesday. The goal secured the Diplomats (5-1) their fourth win in as many games.

Kinney's goal, her second of the season, came five-and-a-half minutes into the second half. She lifted her  shot past the Crusaders' (4-2) Abby Eby for the F&M's final tally of the day. The stroke answered Alvernia's marker in the closing minute of the first period. That's when Ashley Tatangelo cashed in on one of the Crusaders' 16 penalty corners in the game. Kinney's goal proved pivotal as Samantha Landis punched in her fourth goal of the year with nearly 17 minutes left in regulation to make it 3-2.

The Diplomats' defense stood tall throughout, forcing Alvernia's shots off the mark. The Crusaders fired 13 times in the game, managing to get just four on target. Naomi Stone stopped a pair.

F&M got the early jump when Allison McLaren set up Kimmy Fisher's third goal of the season on a penalty corner 13:10 in. The Diplomats took eight penalty corners in the contest. Chelsey Talhelm scored her first collegiate goal to give the Diplomats a 2-0 lead.

F&M improves to 5-1 with the win. The Diplomats return to action on Friday evening at Washington College. The Centennial contest gets underway at 7:00 p.m.
