Sixth-ranked Hopkins Blanks Diplomats

BALTIMORE, Md. - Sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team scored a pair of goals in a 52-second span to take a 2-0 lead just 5:33 into the first half and hold on for a 4-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Wednesday night.

Catie Farrow opened the scoring at 4:41 with her sixth of the season. Ariana Branchini took a shot from the top of the arc off a penalty corner and Farrow tipped it past goalie Jennifer Burdo.

Adair Landy added to the lead at the 5:33 mark off another Hopkins corner. Landy collected a pass from Leah Horton and fired a hard shot into the cage. The assist for Horton was the 29th of her career, tying the program record held by Amy Bruschi (1997-00).

The Blue Jays pushed their lead to three at 26:21 when Kelly Kimmerling lifted a loose ball into the cage for her second of the season.

Horton made it a 4-0 game in favor of Hopkins at 42:15, burying a rebound off a shot from junior Chantal Serle for the final tally.

Goalie Sophia Tieu started the game and played 55:48 while making just one save. Freshman Kim Stein replaced Tieu and finished with one save. Burdo played 47:27 in the cage for the Diplomats and finished with four saves. Naomi Stone came on in relief of Burdo and made three saves.

F&M travels to Haverford on Saturday to face the Fords. Game time is 1 p.m.
