Diplomats Steady at Head of Fish

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Franklin & Marshall fielded crews in five races on the second day of the 24th Annual Head of the Fish Regatta. Ideal conditions on Sunday yielded fast times at the Saratoga Rowing Association's marquee event.

In the Women's Collegiate 8, Franklin & Marshall finished 13th in a field of 17 teams. The Diplomats completed the 2.2 mile, Fish Creek course in 14:07.63, eight seconds behind Union and six seconds ahead of Wesleyan. Williams claimed the race with a time of 12:20.96.

F&M finished 15th out of the 24 teams in the Women's Collegiate 4. The Diplomats' 16:08.16 was four seconds behind Sarah Lawrence, and four seconds ahead of St. Lawrence. Williams College dominated the event with its B entry taking the race in 13:51.51. The Williams' C entry took second, with it's A entry in fourth.

F&M finished ninth in both the Men's Collegiate 8 and the Men's Novice 4. The Fummer 8 posted an 11:42.73, 46.77 seconds off the championship pace set by Hobart. The Statesmen clocked 10:55.96. F&M's time was good for ninth place in a field of 17 crews. The Diplomats finished in the middle of the pack of 18 teams in the Novice 4, logging a 14:19.64. Williams won that race in 12:42.77.

The Diplomats recorded an eighth place finish in a field of nine competing in the Collegiate J.V. 8. F&M posted a mark of 12:50.34. Hobart claimed victory in 11:22.40.

The races concluded F&M's fall slate. The Diplomats' crews return to the water in March for the Murphy Cup.
