WESTMINSTER, Md. – A strong fourth quarter helped McDaniel to a 59-43 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball on Thursday evening. The Diplomats dropped to 8-14, 5-12 CC while the Green Terror improved to 11-11, 9-8 CC.
Sarosha Parsons got the scoring started in the first quarter, followed by a layup from Kristin Hamill and an AnnMarie DiCarlo three-pointer to give F&M the 7-0 lead at the 8:16 mark. With the game tied at 11-11 with 2:55 left, Parsons knocked down two free throws to give the Diplomats the edge, but the Green Terror was able to even the score at the end of the first.
Free throws from Jen Cappucci and Devandria Bernard helped F&M to the 16-15 edge halfway through the second quarter. The Diplomats kept the pace with a layup from Lindsey Powers as time expired gave F&M the 24-20 advantage going into halftime.
McDaniel came out strong with an 8-0 run to start the third quarter, but a Sarah Pisani three brought F&M back within one with 5:39 left. Pisani knocked down another three to tie the game at 33-33 at the 3:13 mark, but the Green Terror recovered to take the slight 38-36 edge with one quarter left to play.
A layup from Hamill brought the score to 50-38 and ended a 12-0 run by McDaniel to start the fourth. The Green Terror kept the momentum to finish out the game with the 59-43 victory.
Hamill led all scorers with 17 points and brought down 12 boards for her 13th double-double of the season. Parsons added nine points and five rebounds to the spreadsheet.
The Diplomats return to action on Saturday, hosting Washington College, and will honor their senior class before 1:00 p.m. start time.
