LANCASTER, Pa. – The Franklin & Marshall women’s
basketball team will travel to Muhlenberg this weekend for the 2009
Centennial Conference (CC) tournament in Allentown, Pa.
The second-seeded Diplomats (14-11, 11-7 CC) will battle No. 3
Johns Hopkins (13-12, 11-7 CC) in the second semifinal game at 3
p.m. on Saturday. Top seed and host Muhlenberg (22-3, 18-0 CC) will
face the winner of No. 4 McDaniel (14-11, 11-7 CC)and No. 5
Dickinson (14-11, 11-7 CC) in the first semifinal of the day,
beginning at 1 p.m.
The winners of the semifinals will meet in the championship game,
slated for Sunday at 2 p.m. The tournament champion will earn the
CC’s automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division III tournament.
The field will be announced on Monday, March 2.
F&M is making its second straight appearance in the conference
playoffs and is seeking its first title. In the regular-season
meetings with Johns Hopkins, the Diplomats posted a 54-52 victory
on Dec. 2 in Baltimore, Md., but the Blue Jays avenged that loss
with a 66-64 win in Lancaster on Feb. 5.
F&M is coming off a 1-1 week and has won eight of its last 11
games. Sarah Meisenberg leads the team with 14.8 points and 4.0
assists per game.
