AKRON, Ohio – Franklin & Marshall remains in fifth place (498) after day two of the Zippy Invite in men's swimming action, hosted by the University of Akron.
IUP is in first (1259 points), followed by Bloomsburg (1255) and Niagara (903).
Patrick Greaney advanced to the B final of the 400-yard individual medley after posting a time of 4:17.77, and placed third in the B final at 4:15.54. Richard Denton (52.20), Ryan Caffrey (53.69), Richard Perry (53.69), and David Burton (53.71) all advanced to the 100-yard butterfly B final. In the B final, Denton placed second (52.30), Perry finished third (52.44) and Burton placed fifth (52.94). Each swimmer earned points for F&M.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Dennis Chen advanced to the B final after touching the wall at 1:46.57, and in the final he placed first (ninth overall) with a time of 1:44.86.
Freshman Eric Lang earned a spot in the A final of the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.68, and finished sixth in the final, touching the wall at 58.22. In the 100-yard backstroke, Andreas Lair Ferrari earned a spot in the B final with a time of 55.68, and placed first in the B final (ninth overall) at 53.78.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Lair Ferrari, Lang, Perry, and Caffrey teamed up to earn a seventh place spot (1:37.08).
In the last event of the day, the 800-yard freestyle relay, Chen, Greaney, Denton, and Lang finished sixth with a time of 7:07.29.
The Zippy Invite concludes tomorrow, with preliminaries set for 9:00 a.m. and finals set for 4:00 p.m. Races include the 1650-freestyle, 200-backstroke, 100-freestyle, 200-breaststroke, 200-butterfly, and 400-freestyle relay.
