LANCASTER, Pa. – The men's swimming team is set to open the 2013-14 season on Saturday when Franklin & Marshall hosts Johns Hopkins at McGinness Pool. At the 2013 CC Championships, the Diplomats collected 516 points over a span of three days and trailed both Gettysburg, who took the title with 801 points, and Ursinus with 585.
F&M lost five members of the 2012-13 team that all made contributions throughout the season. Two of those key losses include school-record holder's Jake Reingold and Zach Wilt, who made up half of the 400- and 800-yard freestyle relay teams that took silver at last year's Conference Championships.
John Zipp – Sr.
Richard Denton – Jr.
Tim Landon – Sr.
Patrick Greaney – So.
The Diplomats will rely heavily on four of their top upperclassmen that return to form the core of this season's squad. Leading that group will be co-captain's Zipp and Landon. Zipp enjoyed a breakout junior campaign that saw him earn an NCAA B cut in the 100-yard freestyle, while Landon's successful run at the 2013 Championships resulted in a top-five finish in both the 500- and 1650-yard freestyle.
Denton paces the junior class as one of the members of the school-record breaking 800-yard freestyle relay team and a top-five finisher in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events at the CC Championships.
The eight-member freshmen class features a diverse group of swimmers in terms of location and events. The well-rounded class figures to add depth to the 2013-14 team. Jack Currie and Andreas Lair Ferrari look to contribute right away, and are expected to help the team improve in backstroke events.
