Diplomats Cruise by Shoremen
Sep 26, 2009CHESTERTOWN, MD -- Franklin & Marshall scored two goals in each half en route to a 4-0 victory over Washington in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action. The Diplomats improved to 5-2-1 overall, and 1-1 in conference play, with the win while the Shoremen fell to 2-6 and 0-2 with the loss.
F&M got on the board early when Matt Melino sent a corner kick to Eric Noto, who headed the ball to Josh Wirtshafter, who headed the ball into the goal at 5:12. The Diplomats went up 2-0 when Ryan Macomber scored off a pass from Giuseppe Bua in the 42nd minute.
The Diplomats made it 3-0 when a shot by Wirtshafter was rebounded by Matt Krantz, who fired it home at 57:28. Bua gave the Diplomats a four-goal lead with a goal off a pass from Krantz at 64:01.
F&M held an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 7-2 edge in corner kicks in the game.
F&M goalie Zach Zamek earned his 15th career shutout stopping two shots in the game. Zamek improved to 5-2-1 on the year. The Shoremen's Chris Phipps absorbed the loss, picking up seven saves.
The Diplomats return to action September 30th when they travel to Gettysburg.
