Diplomats Drop Eight Spots; Woods Still Fourth

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Franklin & Marshall's men's golf team dropped back eight places during the second of four rounds at the NCAA Division III National Championships. The Diplomats went from 11th to 19 place, but survived the cutdown to 23 teams.

Andrew Woods remains tied for fourth place through 36 of the 72 holes. After shooting 69 yesterday on the Dye Course, he shot 75 this afternoon on the Ryder Course. He mixed a pair of birdies with five bogeys on Thursday. Woods and six others are sitting on even par, six strokes behind La Verne's Mitchell Fedorka. Fedorka is alone in first place, followed by teammate Rizal Amin, three strokes behind.

La Verne leads the field after a second round score of 283 for a total of 575. Methodist moves to second at 582 (279-303) and Oglethorpe is in third at 585 (301-284). F&M shot 311 on Thursday to post a two round total of 608.

Joe Fucigna dropped 30 spots in the individual standings, moving from sixth to 36th on the afternoon. He and 11 other golfers are five shots above par at the midpoint. After a shaky start, Fucigna shot a 79 on Thursday, settling in for the final five holes. He carded a pair of birdies and three pars to close his afternoon.

Danny Liebowitz shot 78 on Thursday to move to +10 on the tournament. He is tied for 87th place. Cameron Warner and Bryan Hartog are each 17 over, tied for 142nd.

The top 23 teams continue for rounds three and four while the top five individuals not a part of those teams also advance. Tain Lee (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps), Lucas Murray (Mount Union), Tyler Nelson (Linfield), (Masa Maruyama (Farmingdale State) and Chris Morris (Centre) all advance.

The third round begins Friday with groups beginning at 7:30 am on the first and tenth tee of the Dye Course. The Diplomats five tee off between 12 and 12:40 p.m.
