Diplomats Second at LVC Invite

LEBANON, Pa. – Andrew Woods went one shot over on the par 72 Lebanon Country Club to finish in a four-way tie for seventh place in the 107-golfer field at the Lebanon Valley Fall Invitational. His effort paced Franklin & Marshall to a second place finish amongst the tournament’s 21 competing teams.

Woods registered his 10th top ten finish of his career and was the first of three golfers to finish in the top 15 for the Diplomats. Dennis Gunderson and Bryan Hartog each shot a 74 (+2) to finish in an eight-way tie for 11th place. Steve Colalillo shot 76 (+4) for 23rd place, while Danny Liebowitz shot 77 (+5) to keep the entire F&M contingent in the top 30 by placing 29th.

Despite the Diplomats’ efforts, Cabrini snuck away with the tournament championship, combining for a 295, two strokes less than F&M’s 297. York (Pa.) and Rutgers-Camden were hot on F&M’s heels having each shot a 298. Moravian closed out the top five with a 299. None of the other 16 scoring teams were closer than nine shots from breaking the 300 barrier.

Gunderson’s 74 ties his career best round, which came in his sophomore year at the Blue Jay Spring Classic at Hershey Country Club. Through the first three rounds of the year, F&M is averaging a combined 304, five strokes better than the record setting 309.5 averaged last year. The 297 is three strokes more than the 294 record set twice two seasons back.

The Diplomats return to action on Thursday at the Blue Jay Fall Classic, hosted by Elizabethtown.
